Meet the Maker - Bella Mia Mama and Baby

Do you remember in Mr. Mom, Michael Keaton's son Kenny had his Woobie, that super cozy blanket that he took everywhere? (That was 1983. Kenny is 42 now and Michael Keaton is 67 which trips me out like nobody's business, but I digress...) Angela Elam deals in Woobies for babies AND their mamas. I met Angela, the charmingly creative designer, producer and entrepreneur behind Bella Mia Mama & Baby at a holiday pop up we did in December. She had the space next to ours, so we had a ringside seat to the oohs and aahhs her beautiful scarves and blankets were receiving. I knew immediately that we wanted her gorgeous scarves in a future collection, but time was tight! Before we knew it, spring would be springing! We chatted during the rare lull in shoppers and discovered we're the same age - separated by a DAY (she's younger, of course). We both have kids around the same age (me two boys, her two girls). We're both runners (she avidly, me reluctantly). We both are on this crazy business ownership journey. The parallels went on and on. We clicked. She jumped in with enthusiasm and here we are! Her story behind the brand is similar to many of the mamapreneurs we've met: in 2002 after her first child was born, she decided to turn her creative passion into a business and Bella Mia Baby was born. Angela hand selected each designer fabric and created one of a kind, scrumptiously soft bibs, blankets and throws for babies only. But, it wasn’t long before mamas were asking for their own accessories! Bella Mia Baby became Bella Mia Mama & Baby as Angela expanded her line to include pillows, handbags, and the softest, coziest scarves for mamas. She still hand chooses every fabric and loves to create custom orders, connecting with her clients and creating heirloom quality pieces that capture the essence of family. Her signature scarves carry a tag that says "cuddle me". You absolutely will. We love that they're functional AND chic. They're super cozy with your winter wear, but lightweight enough to wear as winter becomes spring. On days that your long-sleeved tee isn't quite warm enough, but your jacket is too warm, this infinitely wearable accessory will continue to be your trusted wardrobe bestie. Our January, 2019 collection featured the Bella Mia Mama & Baby 60” Scarf (Retail:  $20.00). Shop the Etsy Shop or call/text Angela at 805.844.1084 and have her create your own unique item.
